Last week, the University of New South Wales (UNSW) became a hub of creative fervour as AWARD School held its first-ever workshop for the university's arts, advertising and media students.
Over 40 aspiring creatives gathered to learn from industry professionals who shared invaluable insights on harnessing ideas, crafting standout campaigns, and thriving in the world of commercial creativity.
The workshop was led by AWARD School Heads Scott Dettrick and Sharon Edmondston who gave students a behind-the-scenes look at 2023’s top campaigns and highlighted key factors for success - platform ideas, enduring concepts, and integrated advertising strategy.
Students were challenged to think on their feet, responding to a creative brief and participating in an interactive brainstorming session led by AWARD School tutors Jackson Elliott and Will Campion from Saatchi & Saatchi, and Hannah Lawson and Kate Idle from Today The Brave. After developing their ideas, students presented their work to the group.
The event culminated in the announcement of the winners and runners-up of the creative brief, along with a People’s Choice award voted on by the students. The energy in the room was incredible, with enthusiastic feedback from both students and the UNSW faculty.
The workshop, the first of many, demonstrated UNSW's creative capabilities and underscored the impact that collaboration between AWARD School and tertiary institutions can have in enriching curricula and offering students real-world insights and applications for a career in creativity.
