About the AWARD Hall of Fame

In 2009, the AWARD committee launched the Hall of Fame to honour outstanding members of the creative community. The following criteria was established: ‘AWARD Hall of Fame sets out to recognise the the best of the very best. It’s for those who’ve defined a generation of advertising. Those that have shaped creativity. Those that we look up to. That inspire us.

That have done what few others have ever done or could ever do. Entry is for the exclusive. For those that have pioneered. Those that have been on top, stayed there and will always be there. The very few we can call legends.

AWARD Hall of Fame is for those whose remarkable creative contribution needs to be recognised now, and always.’

About the AWARD Awards

In 1978, after another tough day at the Clemenger Ad Factory, Paul Jones and Peter Cherry, inspired by a couple of tinnies, decided it was about time for Australia to have its own creative awards and a book to publish the best work in the country.

The Australian Writers and Art Director’s (AWARD) was subsequently born. The first committee meeting was held in November 1978 and the inaugural AWARD dinner in June 1979. The mission was defined: ‘The Australian Writers and Art Directors Association Limited is a non-political, non-profit organisation with but a single idea: the raising of standards. To raise the standards one has to be bloody-minded.

We are and always will be. AWARD’s not about congratulations. It’s about stimulation of higher standards. And that’s about it.’ Fast forward 40 plus years, now is a great opportunity to celebrate the very best of Australian advertising: not just the commercial success, but also the significant contribution advertising has made to culture, arts and society.
