I'm flying to New York in a few weeks and, as a first-timer, in order to make the most of America’s cultural capital; research is key. Whilst looking for things to see and do I stumbled across this beautiful blog of weekly illustrations by New York based graphic designer Jose Guizar.
In 'Windows of New York' Guizar takes us through an illustrated journey visiting some of the most popular streets of the city – from Hell’s Kitchen to the Upper East Side, collecting the windows that caught his eye while wandering around New York City. The series features the great architecture that gives the city one of it's distinctive features, "I'm into all kind of visual things, sharing good stuff with great people, and apparently, staring creepily at windows." Guizar explains that ever since he moved to the big apple, he has had a growing obsession with the variety and beauty of the city’s windows. So he began this project as “an ode to architecture and part a self-challenge to never stop looking up.”
I love the simplicity of this project. To see such a simple idea executed so perfectly is really refreshing. The illustrations are beautiful on their own, but they look even better in the context of the website; seeing strip-after-strip of these colourful windows, reveals Guizar's wonderful eye for colour and composition.
